Introduction

Congratulations ! You have been selected to join a team of Foreign Service Officers from your region of the world to be the featured presenters at the United Nation's World Millennium Conference. How exciting !! You will take your regional knowledge and showcase this to the world's most important dignitaries in the form of an electronic geography portfolio that includes a database, spreadsheet and PowerPoint presentation. Plan your projects well... the world will be watching.



Task

Your team will consist of three members. Your goal is to create and present a multimedia project for the United Nations Millennium Conference. What an honor to join other Foreign Officers in this historic gathering!
Your team will be assigned a world region.
Within your team, you will need to designate each member as a researcher and amateur expert for the following roles of participation: Environmentalist, Historian, Economist. Click here for a list of team responsibilities. 

Your team will work through the on-line modules and data sheets to develop a database, spreadsheet and PowerPoint presentation with data pertinent to your region.

Altapedia - Online: contains full color maps and key facts and statistics on countries of the world
World Fact Book 2000: from the CIA, contains up-to-date information on all world countries
Country Studies: from the Library of Congress
Country Reports: Learn about every nation and province of the world; includes maps and flags
 
Print Resources
Encyclopedia of People and Places
World Almanac and Book of Facts
Check the Library for various titles in our collection



Process

Use the provided resource links to collect and organize data for each expert.
Complete data sheets with located information.
Review the module requirements by looking at each assessment rubric.
Complete Database module with tutorial as needed.
Complete Spreadsheet module with tutorial as needed.
Assemble your data into an informative PowerPoint presentation on your team's region to showcase at the Millennium conference.
Enjoy your project, but remember, the world is expecting you to provide a description of "real life" in your region.

Conclusion

Wow!! You have just completed your project and should feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment for your efforts.
